On May 26, 2025, a 39-foot Sea Ray boat carrying 15 people exploded around 6 p.m. while anchored near a popular sandbar. Witnesses described a sudden fireball and people being thrown into the water. Good Samaritans nearby quickly assisted in rescuing the victims.
The Victims and Their Injuries
Among the injured were two children, ages 5 and 7, who suffered burns. The father of four, whose name has not been released, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s burn unit. His wife and children are reported to be in serious but stable condition.
